John Friel, Ph.D

John FrielDr. John Friel holds a Ph.D. in geology & environmental science from the University of Pennsylvania.  He has over 4000 hours of pilot-in-command time and over 700 hrs. of actual instrument time.  He also has  given 1200 hrs. of flight instruction, most of which is instrument instruction.  As an assistant professor of earth & environmental science, Dr. Friel taught undergraduate and graduate courses at TempleUniversity and has guest lectured at many other universities.  In addition to these higher education positions, Dr. Friel has taught aviation weather, nautical, and aeronautical navigation to CAP and ROTC classes and has been a substitute teacher of science and math in suburban school districts.  

John retired as a captain in the US Navy after serving in eight ships and commanding three units.
